The Feel
I liked the feel of the movie, it really did feel like the first. They leaned into that same mockumentary awkwardness, the kind of humor that sneaks up on you rather than trying too hard. The comedy isn’t quite at the same level as the original, but that’s almost impossible anyway — it’s lightning in a bottle. Still, it was enjoyable, and I never felt like it was phoning it in.
Nigel & the Band
Nigel was brilliant as always. His soft-spoken voice just nails the effect they’re going for — he can say something completely ridiculous and somehow it comes across as profound. His obsession with cheese in this one was hilarious, and the way they let it spiral into its own running gag worked perfectly. The other members’ weird hobbies and jobs added to the absurdity, grounding them as these washed-up rockstars trying to “stay busy.” It all felt very Spinal Tap. Not to mention the drummer, that woman can play. That said, does she survive?
Cameos & Legacy
The cameos from Paul McCartney and Elton John? Massive highlight. The second they show up, the music jumps to another level. It’s like being touched by god when either of them so much as strum or touch a piano key. Those moments elevated the film from silly fun to something with a bit of magic. I also appreciated how they remembered the legacy of the previous cast members — little nods here and there that showed respect to the original run, instead of pretending it never happened.
The Manager
Then there’s the manager. Absolute fuckery. Imagine having someone who just doesn’t compute music trying to steer your career — watching it play out was painful but in the funniest possible way. It reminded me of the original manager chaos, but with a more clueless spin. They did a good job making him both frustrating and entertaining at the same time.
Verdict
Overall, I wasn’t really dissatisfied with anything, but it still only lands at a 3.5/5. It’s enjoyable, nostalgic, and funny, but it doesn’t quite climb to the classic level of the first. Worth watching, especially if you’re a fan — just don’t expect it to hit 11.
