Watching Weapons felt like taking your childhood BMX with no suspension down a road full of potholes—one bigger than the next. I came in expecting a thrilling story, and while the concept was interesting, the execution left me scratching my head more than once.
Plot Brief
The movie follows multiple characters over the course of roughly a month, weaving their stories together in an attempt to build tension. Each new reveal gives more insight into the characters—but also leaves even more questions in its wake. By the time the climax hits and the credits roll, I was left feeling a bit… mentally fucking blue-balled.
What Worked
- Interesting concept: The intertwining stories are unique, and some moments have potential.
- Character moments: I enjoyed the characters, each one was fuckery in their own way.
What Didn’t Work
- Too many plot holes: I can tolerate a few, but this movie is packed with them. Sometimes it feels like the story doesn’t know where it’s going.
- Frustrating execution: Ideas that sounded amazing on paper don’t always translate to the screen.
- Unrealized tension: The movie tries to build suspense, but for me, it fell flat. The stakes never really grabbed me.
- Lack of lore: The characters exist in a world that’s hinted at but never fully explored, leaving a lot of potential untapped. I the lack of lore may have been done on purpose but has backfired.
- Unanswered questions: By the end, I was left wondering what actually happened to several characters.
Verdict
Weapons is ambitious but doesn’t fully deliver. If you enjoy piecing together confusing plots and can laugh off major story flaws, there’s some entertainment here. If you want a story that actually makes sense, this one will likely frustrate you.
Rating: 2.5/5 stars – more frustrating than thrilling, but with a few redeeming moments.
